3-20-13 Patriotic Commission Minutes
PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
March 20, 2013

A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:10p.m. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of Town Hall followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Present: Margaret Byrnes, Paul Barry, Patricia Begley, Bernard Corona,
Edward M. Dettore, Vincent Parys, Joan Barbara Ross, Susan Tukey,
Melodie Wilson.

Also Present: Mayor Marcia LeClerc, Timothy Siggia of the Veterans
Affairs Commission and Corporation Council Mr. Scott Chadwick, Robin E. Parys, Clerk.

Excused: Charles Clark, Eugene Pushefski, Sr.

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS TO SPEAK: Chairperson Margaret Byrnes asked Commissioner Bernard Corona to open the meeting with our proposed change to the Bicentennial Square. Commissioner Vinny Parys distributed copies of a sketch of the proposed idea for the Square that he and Commissioner Corona worked on.
Commissioner Corona told all present what the Patriotic Commission and the Veterans Affairs Commission were proposing to do for the Bicentennial Square. Our goal is to make the existing Monuments at the Park more visible to the general public and the entire area more appealing for the residents.  A lengthy discussion regarding what can and cannot be done. Mayor LeClerc insisted that the name NOT be changed as it would dishonor former Mayor Blackstone. Mayor LeClerc also indicated that she does favor making improvements to the park but wants to hold off on the name change. Corporation Council Scott Chadwick stated that no organization or commission has the right to change the name of the park. When asked by Commissioner Paul Barry if it was against the law to do so he stated that it was not.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Vincent Parys motioned for the minutes of the Feb.20, 2013 meeting be approved as is. 2nd by Commissioner Paul Barry.
MOTION: Approved.

CORRESPONDENCE: Responses from parade participants are coming in.

BILLS: None.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Commission Budget is now 11,261.14.

UNFINISHED/OLD BUSINESS: Commissioner Vinny Parys informed the Commission that the radios the Commission wished to purchase have been sold out and that the 2013 flags will be ordered pending approval of a purchase order.


NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Patricia Begley motioned that the Veteran's Commission (Bernie Corona, Paul Barry, Tim Siggia, Vinny Parys), and the Patriotic Commission (Ed Dettore, Melodie Wilson, Joan Barbara Ross, Vinny Parys) conduct meetings regarding Bicentennial Square at the Patriotic Commission meetings.

• Commissioner Bernie Corona motioned to pay the clerk. Commissioner Susan Tukey 2nd.

•Commissioner Begley also stated that the letters for the Flag Day Essay Contest should be sent to the Board of Ed and the schools.
MOTIONS: Approved.

ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Susan Tukey made a motion that was seconded by Commissioner Vincent Parys to adjourn at 8:20 P.M.
MOTION: Unanimously approved.
